Very little is known about The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild‘s backstory, but it seems some dedicated fans have uncovered an important part of it. This is all thanks to a map that comes with the special edition of the game.During last week’s Nintendo Treehouse stream, we got to see what’s included with the Breath of the Wild special edition. It includes a Master Sword statue, a Switch carrying case, a music CD, and more. Among these items is a map that has the game’s story written on it. Unfortunately, the story is written in the form of runes that can’t easily be read. It’s a good thing that diligent fans, including YouTuber Zeltik, have managed to translate the mysterious script. The runes are written in the language of the Sheikah — which you may know from previous The Legend of Zelda games. The runes were first translated into Japanese and then into English. You can see the translation below.“Hylians pass stories of a destined time long past where multiple races lived and worked together in harmony. The Sheikah Tribe’s blue aura breathed through the land, and this mutual prosperity continued until a cataclysmic disaster stuck. The Hero and the Princess attempted to seal the terror which became known as the Calamity Ganon. Divine beasts awoke from four directions and deployed a mechanical army which made the King and his people fearful. They fractured Ganon’s power and sealed him, but the Sheikah were banished from the land ever since.”It appears that Calamity Ganon was on the verge of destroying the world but was stopped by the Sheikah’s mechanical army and Divine Beasts. After this war, the denizens of the world grew to fear the Sheikah’s technology. The video below details a few theories that have been born from this translated script. Be warned that it may contain possible spoilers. This explains why there are mechanical enemies in the world and why Link awakens in a Sheikah cave. There’s still a fair amount we do not know about the story. Thankfully, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will be released in a few short weeks, and we’ll get to learn more about the game’s story then.
