Plenty of manufacturers produce car stereos with tight iPhone and iPod integration and have for some time now. But I’ve yet to see one which takes things quite as far as the new Pioneer AppRadio which CrunchGear has uncovered. The double-din unit takes the iOS love all the way to its interface, though I’m going to go out on a limb and say the one shown in the image above has been Photoshopped. For die-hard Apple fans, the SPH-DA01 could be a very enticing aftermarket audio upgrade. According to CrunchGear’s source, AppRadio will also be able to pull in contact data and email from your iOS device andthe unit will feature streaming audio apps like Pandora and iHeartRadio as well as social media apps. It’s probably safe to assume that includes Twitter and Facebook. There’s no Internet connectivity in the device itself, so making use of the apps will require your iPhone’s data connection. This little baby is all about Apple devices, and you’ll need to be running a minimum of iOS 4.1. You will, of course, be able to connect other devices via an RCA input or Bluetooth, but the experience won’t be nearly as seamless. And while you will be able to pop in a microSD card and enjoy to your stored audio files, you’ll never have another jammed disc in your car stereo. There’s no optical drive in the SPH-DA01.
