The event was sponsored by Tuscaloosa Urban Mission as a part of their summer hope program, where missionaries will go to local apartment complexes and spend time with children. For the missionaries, the block party was a way to spread the love of Jesus.“To be a constant that shows up every day and the joy that you get to see on their faces when you show up and they jump in your arms and you play games with them,” Summer missionary Cooper Thompson said. “It just melts my heart every day.”The missionaries want to break the stereotype that they have to go overseas to make a difference.“I think that some people think of missions as I have to go somewhere,” Summer Missions Coordinator Destiny Martin said. “We see the sad commercials all the time of orphan children overseas and those are great and that’s awesome, but you can also be a missionary here in your hometown.”Information on Tuscaloosa Urban Missions’ next events can be found on their Instagram.last_img
